San Ignacio Salesman Robbed and Shot in Belize City

Fitzroy Yearwood

In the Old Capital last night, a salesman was shot, but survived the incident. Forty-one-year-old Zane Robinson, a resident of San Ignacio, was injured on Tuesday evening while conducting business in the vicinity of First Street in the King’s Park area. Robinson was accosted by a pair of armed men who demanded money, before proceeding to relieve him of several items, including a chrome nine millimeter tactical Smith and Wesson firearm, a key for a Toyota Hilux he was driving, as well as an I-Phone.  During the holdup, Robinson was shot in the upper left shoulder and left hip.  According to Inspector Fitzroy Yearwood, the perpetrators of the daring assault may have carried out the crime using a sports utility vehicle, as they made good their escape in a blue car.

Insp. Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer, Eastern Division

“Well we got a call sometime around 5:30 or thereabout yesterday evening where we learned that one Zane Robinson was robbed at gunpoint and he was also shot in the left shoulder and left hip.  Police responded immediately to the scene where Mr. Robinson was transported to the K.H.M.H. where he is in a stable condition.  We have been looking for two persons that we believe could shed some light in this investigation.  We believe that they are operating in an SUV and we have requested the assistance of our other counterparts from the various precincts and the rural area in trying to locate these persons.”

“Is this something that you believe is an ongoing series of criminal activities being perpetrated by a known group or do you have a wide net when it comes to these suspects?”

Insp. Fitzroy Yearwood

“Well, it’s more like a wide net because if you notice we haven’t had any sort of incident of that nature in this area for a while.  So this is once in a blue moon and we’re still not ignoring the fact that it could be related to other groups maybe, that occurred in another area of the division but we will treat it with an open mind and at the same time we are asking if any member of the public knows anything that could help us if they believe they may have seen yesterday and they believe that that would be valuable information for us, we ask them to call 911 or 922-TIPS.”

The total value of the possessions taken from Robinson is approximately six thousand dollars.  He remains in a stable condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
