Edwin Ramirez is Mr. Belize
Good evening, I’m James Adderley with this week’s edition of Sports Monday. The Prestigious Mr. Belize Contest of Bodybuilding was staged Friday night inside the Princess Hotel and Casino where this spectacle of wall-to-wall muscle took centre stage.
We go immediately to the main even as the serious came out to claim the all Belize title in the presence of Edwin Ramirez, Deon Danderson, Roger Sutherland and Gilroy Nembhard. There’s a lot of jacking for position even though body building is a legitimate non-contest sport.
However when the judges render their decision Edwin Ramirez has picked up his third Mr. Belize title and has exacted sweet revenge on Deon Danderson who had beaten him in Muscle Mania earlier this year and we say congratulations.
Deon Danderson had to settle for the runner up spot obviously, but he certainly gave Ramirez a run for his money.
Roger Sutherland picked up the third place trophy.
While Gilroy Nembhard, the statistician–he has plenty of muscles but also has a little too much weight on and the former Mr. Belize takes fourth place.
Now here are the five young beauties competing for the Ladies Body Figure contest and the first thing we want to say right off the bat is that ladies you?re all superfine winners. So how can you choose the best from amongst many?
Well that?s a problem for the judges who decided that Dianne Garcia should finish fourth. Arlene Welch resplendent in yellow gets third place. As you can see when the judges announce that Jeanette Sankey finishes second-she?s not very happy but the judges? decision is final. And they gave the top prize to an ecstatic Jolie Pollard who is happy and we say congratulations.
Meanwhile this routine by Any Neal was enough to push him over the top for top honours in the masters? category.
Neal?s biggest challenge came from a true veteran Mc Claren but he has to settle with second in the year 2004.
While the once unbeatable Thomas Wright had to be content with third place.
At the Junior A Class find Lindsford Buckley, picks up third place.
Allan Tsai can?t believe it, but he has to settle for second.
And the winner is Mark Roaches and he leaves no doubt who is number one in this category.
Now meet the three athletes in search of the Junior B Class title.
Third place goes to Robert Howes who might have been sandwiched by the Buckley twins.
Michael Buckley takes second while Lindsford Buckley would be the big man in this class. This competition was sponsored by Courts PowerAde, the Belize Bank and Atlantic Bank. Certainly Channel 5 says congratulations to the body building community.
In basketball news, we head to Orange Walk for Game II of the semi-final in the BBA series as the Warriors, down a game, hosted Kruzzaz of Belize City inside the Peoples Stadium on Friday night.
The visitors look good early when Leon Williams puts back this Kevin Seroki miss shot with unmistakeable authority.
Inside the paint Williams quickly establishes his game as he gets another put back off his own miss shot–he would finish with the seventeen points /ten rebounds.
OW?s reply comes from Lester Cadle with the long deuce. Cadle would lead the Warriors with twenty-four points.
In the closing moments of the first quarter Kenroy Smith knocks down this three–he would finish with twenty-one game points and at the end of the first quarter, Kruzzaz are up by four.
Meanwhile folks we must reinforce the point that Lester Cadle has games and he knocks down this turn around jumper to prove it.
This time down court Cadle wants three and he gets three.
But the question for the Warriors: is who will stop Leon Williams in the paint as he continues to dominate?
Down by eight in the second quarter Kenroy Smith smashes two Kruzzaz?s points home. Nevertheless at the half OW is up by three points.
SO we fast forward to the fourth quarter with the Kruzzaz showing a ten point lead.
The visitors keep the pressure on as Marlon Gillette gets the easy two. Gillette would total an impressive thirty-one points to lead all scorers on the court.
Roger Favela, he keeps OW in the hunt with this three point shot–he would strike for twenty-three points.
But Marlon Gillette certainly has a break-out game today he strikes for two more points here and Kruzzaz gets the ninety-nine to eighty-five big W to sweep the series.
Plus, it?s official, BTL Nets and Kruzzaz will now face each other in a five game series for the semi-pro basketball title in 2004. Game I is set for Thursday September ninth, while Game II comes up next week Wednesday September fifteenth.
Finally folks, Kevin?s Barber Shop sponsored another mountain bike race for non-cyclist on the Western Highway yesterday.
At the half way mark the platoon seems to be more or less intact.
On the way back we simply must give respect to our colleague Steven Ferguson who manages to track down the lead bunch of ten.
At Burton Bridge, Jason Gibson engineers this breakaway that leads to a solo flight all the way and here he is pulling up for top honours.
Now here?s the sprint for second, and it?s Ian Whitaker taking that prize, Kirk Sutherland finishes third, Wilmott Simmons fourth while Bert Sabedo rounds out the top five.
However, we?ve got to show you this spirit for sixth place and yes its true, our guy Stephen Ferguson turns on the after burners to secure that finish and we say to Stephen-you?re looking better boy with each outing.
In closing folks, we certainly want to thank our cameramen for their great work over the weekend. As we leave you, we want to tell you that we honour our nation, our history, and our forefathers by celebrating the Tenth of September. So have a happy tenth and that?s it. Jah over all, I?m James Adderley.
