Cayo Police Conduct Intensive investigation into Alleged Drug Killings
The double murder of Mai and Miralda in Santa Elena occurred two days after the bodies of two Guatemalan nationals were discovered off a feeder road between mile sixty-nine and seventy leading to the Mopan River in San Ignacio. Last Thursday, fifty-two-year-old Santos Ramon Gomez and thirty-seven-year-old Orlando Antonio Garcia Calletal, who are believed to be drug peddlers from neighboring Melchor De Mencos, Peten were executed; shot to the head by what is suspected to have been motivated by a drug deal gone sour. Four men were initially detained while police looked for another person of interest. Officer Commanding San Ignacio Police Formation, Superintendent Richard Rosado gave News Five an update.
Supt. Richard Rosado, O.C., San Ignacio Police
“The incident that transpired in the salon, we believe it is a crime of passion. The one that occurred in San Francisco, the feeder road off the Benque Viejo Road, the investigation is still ongoing and presently we have just received the video from the Benque Viejo Border Management when the two deceased crossed the border. So we are trying to follow that lead to see which taxi they boarded and where they dropped them off. So the investigation is still continuing. And what we have done now since the San Francisco incident, we have divided the San Ignacio Police Formation into two zone. We have a rural rapid response team that will deal with the rural area and the urban one that will deal with the urban area and we will constantly have patrols in the area since it is a known drug trafficking area.”

“I know that several persons were detained, up to four persons were detained last Friday on connection with this murder. Is anyone detained now? have these persons been released?”
Supt. Richard Rosado
“The individuals we had detained were questioned and released. So far we have no one detained at this moment.”
