Barrow says his team is ready
For Opposition Leader Dean Barrow the question arises, even after a successful demonstration, “where do we go from here?” On Friday he was asked by News 5’s Stewart Krohn how any future UDP government would handle the nation’s finances.
Dean Barrow, Leader of Opposition
“Quite honestly there are several possibilities. I could take it on myself with the assistance of experts both in the public and private sector and we would be very, very careful to ensure that whatever we did in terms of national reconstruction, we would involve private sector experts centrally.”
Stewart Krohn
“Bearing in mind you?ve already gone on record of saying you weren?t going to hold a portfolio.”
Dean Barrow, Leader of Opposition
“Oh yes, that was for the 2003 elections, but clearly circumstances abort that dramatically. But that apart, there are people like Ambrose Tillett; there are people like John Saldivar; they are people like Doug Singh; whether all three of them would be candidates is another matter. But even if they are not candidates, they can certainly assist with respect to any financial team that we will put in that place. So I have no doubt that we already have the bodies within the UDP that can do this together with the resources and the goodwill, we will be able to draw on with respect to the private sector. I will say and make no apologies for it either that any new UDP government would feature Dr. Manuel Esquivel as a part of the financial reconstruction team.”
Barrow told News 5 that unbiased estimates of the size of the demonstration put the number of marchers at between nine and ten thousand.
