Dionicio Salazar is Convicted of Killing Marlon Rivera
The prosecution, however, secured a conviction in the murder trial against Dionicio Salazar. On Friday in the Belmopan Supreme Court, Salazar was found guilty of the murder of Marlon Rivera. He was tried before Justice Antionette Moore in a trial without jury. The justice found that Salazar was the gunman who killed Rivera on June thirteenth 2010. He was also charged with the attempted murder of Dean Dougal and is being tried separately for that charge. On the night of the shooting, Rivera, Dougal and his girlfriend were out socializing. They claimed that when they spotted Salazar at a club, they left, but were followed by him. While at a nearby taxi stand, they were gunned down. Dougal was shot three times, but survived; his girlfriend was unscathed, but Rivero succumbed. Salazar is no stranger to the courts. He beat a murder rap in July 2015 for the murder of Rodney August in June 2008. He was first convicted of murder, but the Court of Appeal set that conviction aside and ordered a retrial in which he was acquitted. He remained behind bars, however, for the murder of Rivera. He is now looking at life in jail.
