Fourteen year old Ryan Alvarez has been making steady progress at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital after he almost lost his life from a gunshot wound he received to the stomach.
Dr. Fernando Cuellar, Medical Chief of Staff, KHMH
“He has improved quite significantly. He is now a candidate to be moved out of ICU. He will go on to the general wards and I expect a fair progress from now on; probably discharged from the hospital in three or four days.”
Marie Alvarez, Mother
“Well he tell me, he is ready to go home and want to eat. So I tell him he has to wait for the doctor to saw when you can eat and what’s not, but now only water he can drink.”
The last five days have been hard on the Alvarez’s family not knowing whether or not their son would survive. Doctors were able to repair damage to Ryan?s liver, bladder, gut and major blood vessels. Today, the young patient started drinking fluids.

G. Michael Reid, Police Press Officer
“We understand it was an old beef. It was just a previous misunderstanding that carried over to this. We don?t know for sure and only an investigation would be able to determine exactly what caused all of this to occur.”
But as the police try to solve this senseless shooting, Marie Alvarez says she lives in fear because her family has been threatened. The police have been investigating the reports.
Marie Alvarez
“I know because my son told me that he is fraid because he does not want to come on the news because he is fraid of the threats when they are sending threats to us because it is my nephew that they want, but they can’t get my nephew because my nephew is at jail so the my people they are taking it out of now So all like we, we are afraid of the threats that they are sending threats to us.”
G. Michael Reid
“Well the police are looking into this, yes indeed. What these specific threats have been, we do not know. But you know, we are doing everything we can to protect every citizen of this country.”
