Rapper brings positive message

Story Picture
If you believe the pre-concert advertisements, you’d think the artist that arrived in Belize today was a combination of Tupac and Biggie with a little bit of Shyne thrown in. Viewers in Dangriga will be able to discover his abilities for themselves tonight…but in the meantime News 5’s Jacqueline Woods managed to catch him this morning on his way south.

Recording artist Marvel Collins, better known as LG Wise, is on his first trip to Belize. The rap singer from the United States has been inspiring youths, through his style of music, to do the right thing no matter how difficult their situation or where they live.

Marvel Collins, Artist

“Okay, LG Wise is pretty much a recording artist, a rapper, who really cares about this generation. He is a rapper that really plans to make a change in the music; you know do positive music, positive rap music where you can really you know leave an impact on Belize and different countries. Also all at the same time not just making an impact, but helping other young people realize that they can do whatever they put their minds to do; that regardless of bad situations. I come out of bad situations, but letting them know that they are here for a purpose. Whatever gift you got, whatever talent you got, you can use it and you can be successful.”

LG Wise’s trip is being sponsored by The Edge Youth Centre, a non governmental organization based in the Cayo district. According to promoter and coordinator Cary Hitz, all proceeds will go towards the construction of a youth centre in San Ignacio.

“We think that young people across Belize could use something like this. How many indoor basketball courts are there across the country let alone on the west side of Belize so this will provide an opportunity not only for young people but even the parents can come in and utilize the centre whether it be basketball or volleyball. There are going to be game rooms. We feel like it will be a place that will be youth friendly and be able to give them positive impact instead of maybe some of the things that would take away their attention in negative ways.”

L.G Wise will be performing in Dangriga, Belize City, Orange Walk and San Ignacio. Jacqueline Woods for News Five.

Tonight the concert gets underway at the Why Not Island in Dangriga. On Friday night, the group travels to the Belize City Centre and on Saturday, L.G Wise will be at the Orange Walk People’s Stadium. The tour concludes on Sunday in San Ignacio at the Cahal Pech Entertainment Centre. All performances start at seven and tickets will be sold at the gate for fifteen dollars.
