Former Chief Justice dies in Barbados

Story Picture
Former Chief Justice of Belize George Moe died this week in his native Barbados. Family members say the seventy-two year old jurist passed away on Monday night at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Moe, whose tenure on the Supreme Court bench in Belize spans the period 1982 to 1985, has served with distinction in various capacities in Barbados and elsewhere in the Caribbean. He was called to the bar in Barbados and later appointed a magistrate in 1960. Moe acted as Barbados’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in the early seventies and by the second half of the decade was serving in the Errol Barrow Cabinet as Attorney-General, Minister of Legal Affairs and Minister of External Affairs. He is survived by his wife, Olga, and children, Dr Stephen Moe, and Lucille.
