New Stamps feature whale sharks
This morning during a brief ceremony at the Museum of Belize, the Belize Philatelic bureau launched its latest postage stamp issue. The stamp depicts the whale shark and it is the first time in more than a decade that the Belize Postal Service has featured anything from the sea. According to Philatelic Supervisor Emelia Cayetano, the issue targets not only Belizeans, but also tourists.

?I am quite sure that there will be a positive response because over the years we?ve been having orchids, eminent Belizeans and so on. I think the last we had from the sea, the coral reef was in the early eighties and so I think it is over time for having something like the whale shark knowing that the whale shark is the biggest fish in the sea. I think it is going to attract children, students, and tourists alike.?
The stamps, valued from twenty-five cents to five dollars, are now available at all post offices in the country. The first day cover is sold for eight dollars and sixty cents.
