Shane Gillett Murder Trial Nears Completion

Shane Gillett

The trial by judge without jury case in the murder of eighty-four year old Samuel Price is coming to an end in the courtroom of Justice Adolph Lucas. Price was the brother of George Price, the father of the nation. He was killed at his home in the outskirts of the city on April eleventh, 2011 and Shane Gillett was accused of Samuel’s murder. The elderly man lived alone and was found dead inside his home with severe injuries to the head and body caused by a blunt instrument.  It took the police department several months to make a break in the case. Gillett reportedly confessed to a woman and the police then moved in on him.   That confession statement is being treated very cautiously since a voir dire was not held to determine the admissibility of that statement.  Police allege that Gillett broke him Samuel’s house attempting to rob him of guns since he recalled Samuel had previously shot an intruder.  He broke into the house and when Samuel refused to give up the guns or tell him where he was hiding the guns inside his home, he killed him. This Tuesday, Gillett is expected to give his defence.  The trial began two weeks ago and so far eight witnesses have been called.   Prosecutor Porsha Staine-Ferguson of the D.P.P.’s office is being assisted by Sherigne Rodriguez.
