Kaseke?s fate will await return of A.G.

Story Picture
Calls to the Attorney General?s Ministry this afternoon revealed that Solicitor General Elson Kaseke wasn?t in office today, and in fact, won?t be back until Monday morning. As for additional information on the in-flight incident over Washington, D.C. that landed the SolGen in jail, government sources tell News 5 that Kaseke will write a comprehensive account of those events and submit copies to the Prime Minister and the office of the Attorney General. We understand that any decision regarding possible disciplinary measures against Kaseke will be made by Attorney General Eamon Courtenay when he returns from holiday the second week in August. Kaseke and crown counsel Rhondine Twist were enroute to a week of meetings at O.A.S. headquarters when an allegedly inebriated Kaseke became involved in a verbal altercation with flight crew, was subdued and later handed over to local authorities in Virginia, where he spent thirty-six hours behind bars. He was charged with the misdemeanours of obstruction of justice and interfering with the operation of an aircraft. Released on five thousand U.S. dollars bail, the Solicitor General returned to Belize on Wednesday. Kaseke, the government?s top legal advisor, has retained the services of a U.S. attorney to appear on his behalf.
