Belizean/American is Charged for Murder of His Son-in-law in Florida
There is another murder of a Belizean, but it happened in the U.S. Fifty-seven-year-old Elvis Tillett, originally from Crooked Tree Village, has been arrested in Osceola County, Florida for the murder of his son-in-law. According to deputies from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, Tillett and twenty-nine-year-old Marquise Ephron got into an argument on Sunday afternoon at a residence in Poinciana. Samedi Ephron, Tillett’s daughter, told police that he had prohibited Marquise Ephron from coming to his home. However, on Sunday, Ephron called and said he wanted to pick up their toddler. To avoid an altercation, Samedi reported that she walked a short distance away from the residence to meet Ephron. The father followed her and encountered Ephron. Reports are that after Ephron berated his father-in-law for disrespecting him in front of his wife and child, Ephron pursued Tillett to his house to beat him. He allegedly threw a punch at Tillett but missed. While it is unclear what precipitated the dispute, police say Tillett grabbed a rifle and shot the victim in the driveway. Tillett was subsequently taken into custody and while he refused to cooperate with the investigation, he has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bond. Tillett left Belize for the United States almost forty years ago.
