Ecstasy factory busted in E.P.Z.

Another drug case is making headlines tonight although the narcotic in question is not cocaine. Three men are wanted for questioning in connection with thousands of illegal tablets found earlier this month at the Data Pro compound on the Northern Highway. According to official reports issued this morning, police chemists have determined that the substances removed from the Target Data Company at mile thirteen and a half at the Boom cut-off are the ingredients used to manufacture ecstasy. So, while tonight the drugs are in police custody, as far as the drug dealers go, authorities have been hard pressed to find anyone in charge to arrest. On Wednesday, the company?s accountant, twenty-six year old Guillermo Pech Jr. of Orange Walk, was charged with sixteen counts of drug trafficking. However, News 5 understands that police are intent on questioning Target?s local manager, as well as its two international owners, but apparently, those people have left the country. Because the three men are not charged with a crime, police are not releasing their names to the press. Sources indicate that Target?s scam was manufacturing and then selling ecstasy on the internet. How chemicals used in that process were imported into the country is also being investigated. The Data Pro Compound, where the illegal drug operation was headquartered, operates as an export-processing zone, with tight security and what are supposed to be tight controls to ensure that what goes on there does not affect the local market. Among the businesses housed in the E.P.Z. are internet gambling operations, pharmacies and other offshore internet based activities that would be illegal were they carried out in the countries where their consumers are located.
