Four arrested in San Ignacio heist
San Ignacio police say four men who decided to visit their municipality for the purpose of crime will think twice before they come again. They report that early Saturday evening thirty-eight year old Leonard Augustine of Seine Bight, forty-six year old Ansel Welch of Gales Point and Belize City residents twenty-seven year old Wayne Castillo and thirty-two year old Fredrick Dougal, a deportee from the United States, arrived in the town in a van. Around two-thirty Sunday morning, the police received information that a burglary was in progress at Lucy’s Fast Food Restaurant on Burns Avenue. When authorities arrived on the scene, they saw Castillo and Dougal coming out of the establishment and they were quickly arrested. The police next tracked down the getaway vehicle, a van parked on West Street. Inside the van, the police not only found the stolen items and cash, but Augustine in the driver’s seat and his passenger Welch. The hot goods included a tape recorder, two speakers, a roll of wire and a black plastic bag containing three hundred and twenty-five dollars. When police went back to the crime scene, they discovered a nine-millimetre pistol and seven nine-millimetre rounds of ammunition. Augustine, Welch, Castillo and Dougal have been charged for burglary. Police say the men had ransacked the business place and also broke into a downstairs storeroom.
