BWS Partners With Restore Belize
Belize Water Services Limited has announced a partnership with Restore Belize’s “I am Belize” Scholarship Program, as well as the Belize National Sports Council. BWS has pledged to assist with funding for the annual academic initiative by making available a total of forty thousand dollars to be disbursed over the course of the next four years. The company’s collaboration with the National Sports Council has seen the donation of five thousand dollars to assist with expenses related to the 2016 CODICADER Games to be held in Belize in early July. All Central American countries are participating except for Guatemala, which says it is boycotting because of the tense relations with Belize. This morning at BWS headquarters, representatives from aforesaid organizations were present for a brief handing over ceremony.
Alvan Haynes, C.E.O., Belize Water Services Ltd.
“I have been having discussions about extending our scholarship program which we currently sponsor children from staff to external and we were debating how best to put this out. Trying to figure out how to deal with applications and selecting candidates, whether we should just go through a few selected high schools and let the schools do the selections et cetera. So when Restore Belize came along and said we need help with our scholarship program we had been helping before with training and taking on students as interns but we decided that it was an excellent partnership that we no longer had to figure out how to deal with the selection part. We would take the easy road and just donate. So thank you Restore Belize. Sports has always been something that BWS has embraced. Mr. Winston Michael, our deputy chair and former C.E.O. of WASA, the original entity, is well known in sports and especially football circles. BWS has contributed to football, volleyball, you name it. So helping to contribute, especially to the younger children and to help our country develop is a thing that we have no hesitation about assisting with.”
