Special constable finally charged in Sept. killing
The shooting took place almost a year ago on what is normally one of the most festive days of the year. On the morning of September tenth, in sight of the Queen Street Police Station, twenty-one year old Aaron Mariano was shot dead by B.D.F. soldier Giovanni Gutierrez with his M-16 rifle. It was a tragic incident as witnesses agree that Mariano, while perhaps behaving rowdily, was a threat to no one. But while the shooter was charged with manslaughter, the special constable who allegedly gave him the order to shoot was never charged with anything. That situation changed today as twenty-seven year old Dennis Palacio has been arrested and charged with the crime of abetment of dangerous harm. We were unable to contact the police or D.P.P.’s Office to determine the reason for the long delay.
