Cop Charged for Attempted Murder
Earlier today, a police officer and another man were placed on remand at the Belize Central Prison for last Thursday’s attempted murder of twenty-nine-year old Nigel Castillo who was shot once in the abdomen while socializing near a basketball court in the Saint Martin De Porres area. After more than three nights in lock down at the Queen Street Police Station, police constable Wallace Meighan, of Belize City along with construction worker Travaun Chee, were charged jointly attempted murder, dangerous harm, use of deadly means of harm with a firearm upon Nigel Castillo.
The duo was also charged with aggravated assault with a firearm upon Gilbert Arana. Both PC Meighan and Chee are due back in Court on September seventh, 2016. Castillo was shot to the abdomen in the vicinity of La Croix Boulevard, a short distance from a police checkpoint. When police responded to the scene of the shooting, they found Castillo bleeding from his injury and rushed him to the K.H.M.H. Police later recovered firearms which led to the arrest of the duo. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, the shooting is not believed to be gang-related, but was triggered by an altercation that took place on the basketball court earlier that day.
ACP, Chester Williams appears to be a part of the solution, however, he sounds more like a part of the problem
