Blackmail Attempt in Calla Creek Village

Carlos Ramon Amador Diaz

There is a report tonight about a blackmail attempt in the Cayo District. Police received a report on Monday, that a Benque resident who works as a manager of three farms received a blackmail letter. Such letter was delivered to him by an employee who received the letter from a man who arrived in a taxi at the farm. It contained a demand for a total of fifteen thousand dollars for the three farms he manages.  The letter was written in Spanish and claimed that it was sent by a criminal gang operating in Central America.  The cash was to be dropped off at a certain area at the Calla Creek junction on July twenty-sixth. Police launched an investigation and on Wednesday questioned and detained sixty-one year old Carlos Ramon Amador Diaz, a Salvadoran taxi driver of Calla Creek Village. Police say they found that and other documents with similar handwriting. Diaz also confessed and gave a caution statement admitting that he was the author of the letter which he gave to another person to deliver. But Diaz is in further trouble because in an ID parade, he was picked out as the driver of the taxi who delivered the letter. Hand writing specimen has been taken from Diaz and sent to the National Forensic Services for analysis. Following a directive from the office of the D.P.P., Diaz is being charged for blackmail. Police also believe that Diaz could be involved in the case of the ABC Supermarket where a letter with similar handwriting was received.
