Did Gaspar Vega Know William Mason?

There’s one more minister who today admitted that he had trekked up Intelco Hill to visit with William Mason. In Orange Walk Town today, we drilled the former Deputy Prime Minister, Gaspar Vega about reports that he too was chummy with Mason. While Vega confirmed he had been to Mason’s house, he denied introducing Mennonite farmer Lloyd Friessen to Mason.  The connection has been made because Mason was dabbling in agriculture and Vega is at the head of that ministry. According to Vega, the Ministry of Agriculture has never signed or entered into any agreement with Mason for business, not corn, piggery or even the importation of coconut.

Gaspar Vega, Former DPM

“I don’t know where they came up with that; that I introduced Mister Mason to the Mennonite business person. I don’t…I am not even aware that anyone in the ministry took part in it. I spoke to my C.E.O. and he said that the only thing that he knows is that Mason had visited the ministry once, but not even him took part in introducing Mason to the Mennonite community.”

Reporter

“What about Manuel Trujillo sir?”

Gaspar Vega

Gaspar Vega

“I didn’t ask him. To be sincere, when they said the minister, I figured it’s me and the closest to me is the C.E.O. and that’s how far I went. I don’t know if Manuel Trujillo had any dealings; it is the first time that I even get anyone to mention such things.”

Reporter

“Because we had reliable reports that it was him who introduced Mason to you and as a matter of fact, there is a document which shows that Mason and Trujillo were at a same venue in Guyana back in 2013.”

Gaspar Vega

“Have no knowledge about that; have no knowledge of that. And Mister Trujillo did not introduce Mason to me.”

Reporter

“Have you met Mister Mason personally?”

Gaspar Vega

“I have, I have.”

Reporter

“In what context?”

Gaspar Vega

“Just on a social context at his house.”

Reporter

“Was that the first and only time you visited him?”

Gaspar Vega

“I visited him twice.”

Reporter

“When would this have been more or less?”

Gaspar Vega

“I don’t really remember. To tell you the truth, it was brief and it’s some time and that was it.”

Reporter

“How did he get license to piggery and even to bring in corn?”

Gaspar Vega

“I don’t know if he even brought in any corn, sincerely.”

Reporter

“Because how would he have been able to supply the corn, three hundred thousand dollars worth of corn to Mister Friesen?”

Gaspar Vega

“I don’t know about these things. I don’t want to speculate; I really don’t know. I had asked my C.E.O. to look into this and he himself doesn’t know of anything. things like that….let me tell you, C.E.O. would have to know and he would have to know even before me and he is not aware of it.”
