Winning posters selected in art competition
Three primary school students are tonight celebrating their achievements in an art competition held by the Department of the Environment. Coordinated to coincide with World Environment Day, students used their time colouring, painting, and stencilling their poster ideas for the theme “Wanted! Seas and Oceans – Dead and Alive?” This morning D.O.E. announced the lucky winners. They are Amaris Contreras of Mount Carmel Primary School in Benque Viejo del Carmen, who takes home the three hundred dollar first prize and gets to go on an educational tour of Halfmoon Caye and the Blue Hole Natural Monument this weekend. Second place was awarded to Contretras’ schoolmate, Carmen Estrada, for this entry which earned her one hundred and seventy-five dollars. Julia Heusner of Hummingbird Primary came up with this design, landing her third place and a hundred dollars. The winning artworks were among a total of one hundred and twenty-three entries competing in the poster contest.
