Managing Waste at Transfer Station
Meanwhile the Transfer Station at the garbage dump near mile three on the George Price Highway is congested due to the volume of debris and garbage transported to the site. Willoughby says the disposal of the material is being processed with assistance from the Solid Waste Management Authority.
Phillip Willoughby, CEMO
“We almost had an emergency at the Transfer Station as the amount and the volume of garbage that is going up there at this time. But what we have done is that we have gotten one bulldozer; that isn’t enough, we need to source another one so that the trucks have clear path and access to dump the waste at the rear of the Transfer Station. At the rear of the Transfer Station, there are coordinated areas where these waste will be disposed of and we continue then to spread and push the waste. From a discussion that I had with Mister Lewis from Solid Waste Management Authority, that this waste will be spread and then capped with a thin lair of clay because we wouldn’t want to be exposing that. And then we reuse the site again to continue dumping. And there is where we lie.”
