Killer on the loose in Corozal

A massive manhunt on both sides of the Northern border is underway tonight for a man accused of murder and attempted rape in Xaibe Village in the Corozal District. Police report that just after midnight this morning, thirty-two year old Jose Coyoc, armed with a sixteen gauge shotgun, broke into the home of forty-three year old Apolonio Tun. News 5 understands that Coyoc gained access to the house by cutting the sieve wire of the screen door to get onto the veranda, found an unlocked back door and simply walked in. Tun, his wife, and fourteen-year-old daughter were inside sleeping. But suddenly the screams of the teenager broke the silence as the young girl awoke to find Coyoc assaulting her. Tun rushed to stop the attack, but Coyoc pulled the trigger, the fatal blast hitting the father squarely in the chest. Tun fell to the floor as his killer vanished into the night. The Police Department has issued an all points bulletin for Jose Coyoc and is tonight appealing to all Belizeans, especially those in Xaibe and the surrounding villages of Chan Chen and Patchakan, to please contact the authorities if they have any information on this case. Corozal cops are working closely with Mexican authorities from Quintana Roo in case Coyoc has fled across the border.
