Catherine Flowers is new Ms. Y
It was an event that, as usual, lived up to the hype. In the end the new Miss Y crowned over the weekend was a popular choice with a Cinderella story and winning personality.

“Not really, I was shocked, pretty shocked that I felt like that.”
Before a packed audience at the Belize City Centre on Friday night, sixty year old Catherine Flowers was crowned Ms. Y 2004.

“It was great, wonderful to contest with five seniors like myself. It was a good experience, we keep chatting to each other, practice together and all these things you know, so it was a wonderful experience for me.”
Each year women sixty years and older participate in the event to help raise money for the Young Women’s Christian Association. Since the pageant started twelve years ago it has become one of the most popular entertainment events in the country. The winner is expected to promote the Y throughout her reign.

“I am expected to continue to serve the seniors at the Y, continue to reach out to them and tell them join the Y, there?s lots of activities there for young and old, not only seniors, exercises, childcare, young school leavers. And maybe we can have more fundraisers to upkeep the YWCA, to keep it alive.”
Flowers says she would like to thank all those people who supported her, especially Belize Medical Associates.
