Teachers’ Union Asks for “Ventilation” of Section 53 Issues

While the U.S. Ambassador is applauding the recent ruling on Section Fifty-three; the Belize National Teachers Union is taking a different view. The teachers of the most militant union recall that they had registered their concerns about the possible implications of the suggested implementation of the national gender policy. The B.N.T.U. adds that they are equally concerned at the suggested amendment of Section Fifty-three of the Criminal Code. The union therefore calls on the Prime Minister to ensure that the matter is thoroughly ventilated on the basis that the people must be allowed to openly express their concerns and opinions on the possibility of an appeal process before it is tabled in the House of Representatives.
