U.S. Will Not Reveal If Players in Scandal Will See Their Papers Cancelled
Former Director of Immigration and current C.E.O. in National Emergency Management, Ruth Meighan, was recently the subject of public embarrassment as she was denied entry into the U.S. and turned back to Belize. Her name is a constant in the Special Audit, which recommends that she also be questioned by the police. Today, U.S. Ambassador to Belize Carlos Moreno said he could not comment on the circumstances of Meighan’s visa cancellation due to privacy and confidentiality concerns. He had a similar answer when we asked him whether the same might happen to persons whose names are called in the Auditor General’s three reports on the Immigration and Nationality Department:
Carlos Moreno, U.S. Ambassador to Belize
“I can’t answer that hypothetical, as to particular individuals; but I don’t think I should really say more, because these are matters that are confidential within the State Department and confidential with respect to the visa holders.”
Reporter
“And I guess you can’t speak about Ruth Meighan, as well? She was the former…”
Carlos Moreno
“Same reason, same reason. You can ask her what the reason was, but I am not free to comment.”
Reporter
“We were going to ask you …”
Carlos Moreno
“I can’t.”
Reporter
“To disclose the reason why her visa was cancelled.”
Carlos Moreno
“Right, we are precluded from doing that.”
Mr. Moreno do not have to tell us, we know why. I hope that the same happen to those many who are involved, including high politicians
