Jones Says It’s Time for Independent Investigation into Danny Conorquie’s Death
The Government of Belize supported an international independent investigation on the shooting death of the Guatemalan minor and four months later, the results showed the joint patrol of B.D.F. soldiers and FCD ranger acted in self defense and the B.D.F. was not responsible for the death of the fourteen year old. So why wasn’t the same done for Tourism Police Constable Danny Conorquie, who was murdered allegedly by Guatemalans, at the Caracol Archeological Site back on September twenty-fifth, 2014? And what about the shooting of B.D.F. Staff Sergeant Richard Lambey near Valentin Camp in the Chiquibul Forest in March of this year? Commander Jones says that government should press for an independent investigation in those incidents as well.

“In terms of another incident that took place there; that of a Belizean being killed—Danny Conorquie. It’s been some time now, but an independent investigation was never done in that matter. What will be done in that case? Is it possible that there is a request for an investigation into that? Man, we can’t just make another life just go just like that.”
Brig. Gen. David Jones, Commander, B.D.F.
“Yah, it would be reasonable and I would also report that an independent investigation be done in those two incidents. I suspect that it will be done, but that is a call by our government and a request that they can make. But since we had these two experts, it validates that we should ask for it as well because the attack on Staff Lambey and also the death of Danny Conorquie should not go just like that. We’ve done this independent investigation that was being pressed by the Guatemalans to have it done, so we should have the same vigor to press for our own security members who have been injured in such incidents as well.”
It’s been time Brig. Gen. I was wondering why the OAS was not as quick to investigate Mr. Conorquie’s killing. It’s disgusting!
