An International Investigation for Pastor Lucas? Said Says Yes, P.M. Says No
The heinous murder of Pastor Llewellyn Lucas in early July, as well as the call for an external investigation also came up in the House today. Pastor Lue was beheaded after being abducted from the home of businessman William Mason on Intelco Hill in Belmopan during a business deal gone wrong. The issue was brought up by former Prime Minister Said Musa who demanded that an inquiry be done by investigators outside of the country. The PM, in his response, threw cold water on that notion altogether.
Said Musa, Area Rep., Fort George
“Will the Right Honorable Prime Minister say why he has refused to appoint an independent investigator into the horrendous killing by decapitation of Pastor Llewellyn Lucas when the person charged in connection with the said murder is known to have entertained and made substantial financial contributions to several members of the Cabinet, including the then minister in charge of the police?”
Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“You should have added something to that question. He is known to have entertained and perhaps made contributions to several persons in the public life, including according to the minutes of a meeting, a number of persons. And I’ll tell you who were in attendance on February the twentieth of 2014: Msiter paddy Franks, Mister Danny Ouellet (Mason), Mister Arturo Saldivar, Mister Michael Espat, Mister Ricardo Gagliar and one Mister Elvin Penner. Topic of meeting – to discuss actions required to prepare for elections; funds for campaign expense will be provided by Mister Danny Ouellet, entrepreneur. The minutes were signed off by all the people who attended; here’s Mister Michael Espat signature. So you should have put that in when you talked about the people that the man entertained. Can’t deny it; have the date, have the signature. Julius mi gone too? Not that one….Luke Espat…oh dah he and Luke. Mister Speaker, you know, the member is right in describing this as a horrendous killing. But what he is attempting to do by the way of this question is to exploit these circumstances. There is no sympathy or empathy for the fate that befell poor pastor Lue. He wants to politically exploit what has happened. Look, independent investigation into what? The man was murdered, he was decapitated. Those that the authorities have found to be responsible have all been charged; several of them. Weh yo want investigate? The investigation has happened; people have been arrested; they are facing murder charges, they are facing kidnapping charges. No man. If you wanted to talk about a special prosecutor, then you should have said so and quite frankly, I don’t see that that is required. I believe that the Director of Public Prosecutions, and I’ve spoken to her, is perfectly capable to prosecute what appears on the face of it to be an open and shut case. So let us all joint together again in regretting how heinous this particular murder has been, but let us not politicize it man.”
