Orange Walk Police Puzzled Over Early Morning Murder

Kevin Flowers

In Sugar City, Orange Walk, police are still puzzling over the murder of twenty-eight year old Kevin Flowers, gunned down in front of his Smithsonian Street home in the early hours of Sunday morning. Police won’t confirm, but there is word that Flowers was involved in criminal activities prior to his murder. Correspondent Aaron Humes travelled north and files this report.

It is clear that twenty-eight year old labourer Kevin Flowers of Smithsonian Street, Orange Walk Town, met a violent end on Sunday morning just after five, when he was accosted by a single armed man who fired as many as ten gun shots and hit him as many as five times in front of his home, before he had time to get inside.

“On Sunday, twenty-eighth August, 2016, at five-fifteen a.m., acting on information received, police visited Smithsonian Street in Orange Walk Town, where on arrival they saw the motionless body of a male person identified as 28 year old Kevin Flowers, Belizean, labourer of Smithsonian Street, with wounds to his forehead, back, neck and left arm. Initial investigation reveals that about five-o-five a.m., same date, the deceased arrived home at his bicycle, and upon approaching the gate, he was confronted by an armed male person, who fired several shots at him, causing his fatal injuries. He was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead by Doctor Wendy Lopez. At the scene, police were able to recover ten expended shells.”

According to officer in command of Orange Walk Formation, Superintendent of Police Selvyn Tillett, their investigation leads them to believe that Flowers, who is known to the town’s police, was being waited on by unwanted visitors when he got home on Sunday morning.  But what police cannot say, at least not yet, is why.

“We don’t want to speculate, but we have certain information that we are following at this moment.”

“And does the police have any fear of retaliation…”

Supt. Selvyn Tillett

“As I said, we are ready for any, if any happens, but at this moment, we’ll try as quick and as hard as we can to avoid any such incident to happen.”

The word on the street is that Flowers was involved in certain incidents a few days ago that may be linked to why he was killed in front of his home on Sunday morning. Police investigation continues into this latest murder in the North.  From Orange Walk Town, Aaron Humes reporting for News Five.

Define “certain incidents”. And how do you and police know hiw many shooters there were? You can’t report things that are not factual or information that hasn’t been confirmed…wait a minute, you just did! To answer your dumb question, there will be no retaliation. Kevin Flowers ‘ family is a peaceful one and they happen to be too grief stricken to think of any thing else. Sorry you made the trip all the way from Belize to end up doing what turned out to be a non news story. It would be good if you’d start asking the right questions. Maybe you’d help to solve this senseless murder of an innocent young man!
