Strike Team Finds Youth With Unlicensed 9-Millimeter Pistol
Also behind bars tonight is nineteen year old Stephen Mejia, an unemployed resident of Antelope Street Extension, after being busted on Thursday with a nine millimetre pistol loaded with nine live rounds of ammunitions. The bust was carried out by officers of the Strike Team, who were on mobile patrol on Dunn Street, Belize City. According to police constables Erwin Reid and Earl Hamilton, they saw two men riding on separate bicycles; when they were approached by the patrol, the men ran into a yard. Police caught one, but the other threw what turned out to be a pistol and ammunition. He was eventually detained by the cops. The suspect, who was later identified as Stephen Mejia, appeared before Magistrate Carlon Mendoza and pleaded not guilty to both charges of Kept unlicensed firearm without a gun license and kept ammunition without a gun license. Due to the nature of the offenses, he was denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central Prison until October twenty-sixth 2016.
