Fifth Demonstration in Belmopan Coming Up; Government Tries to Resolve Disputes

Dean Barrow

Monday’s demonstration by the Belize National Teachers’ Union will be the fifth in less than a month in the nation’s capital and sixth overall in that time span including the People’s United Party’s march through the streets of Belize City on September seventh. Prime Minister Dean Barrow says that it is clearly a concern and one that the Government is trying to address in short order. But he was also careful to separate politics from the milieu of national issues that Belizeans also want addressed.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“Clearly it’s a matter of concern and we need to sort out the issues that have in fact sparked the demonstrations. We also need to separate the purely political from what is legitimately a concern of social partners. And that is precisely what we are trying to do; we are seeking to address each of the areas of concern in turn and trying to reach some sort of resolution.”
