1st conviction under human trafficking law

The first conviction has been achieved under the recently enacted trafficking in persons legislation. According to a police press release, fifty year old Mildred Villanueva appeared today in Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court and pleaded guilty. She was fined one thousand dollars or in default a year in prison. The charges stem from the discovery of a fourteen year old minor employed at “Roxi’s Place.”
