Man Appeals For Help After Fire Destroys House
A fire in Belize City destroyed a man’s home and personal belongings. Marlon Usher of Arlington Drive said he was hospitalized so he wasn’t at home when his house was destroyed by fire around eight on Saturday night. The Belize City man said that he suspects arson. Here’s what he told News Five about the fire that has left him homeless.
Marlon Usher, Fire Victim
“My whole house was damaged. Everything destroyed to the ground. When I come out yesterday, I end up the see how it was destroyed- everything. I ask people around what happened and nobody can give me a registration more or less about what happened with my house, you dig?”
Andrea Polanco
“So, now in terms of your home; talk to me about some of the things that you lost. What kind of structure was it?”
Marlon Usher
“It was a plywood structure, twenty by eighteen. It was furnished with sofas, flat screen TVs and gas tank, everything: bed, everything. It was a three bedroom, bathroom and hall.”
Andrea Polanco
“Do you have an idea of what caused this fire?”
Marlon Usher
“Well, on my behalf I think somebody set the place on fire. From what I hear from people, based on the timing, the fire nuh start from one direction. The fire start within the house. Seems like somebody bruk in there and do what they wah do and ker what they want ker and just damage the house afterwards.”
Andrea Polanco
“So, you think that the motive was- they burglarized your home and …?”
Marlon Usher
“Burglarized and then burn it down. They end up the ker lotta thing and when I look in the fire burn I nuh see most of the things that you would see if they are in the spot they would be right there burn up- they are not there.”
Andrea Polanco
“I take it your home wasn’t insured?”
Marlon Usher
“It wasn’t insured, no ma’am. I’m just asking for a lee support from the community to try get back some materials and start all over because only this I got. Ground zero I deh right back.”
Usher said his house and belongings are valued at an estimated six thousand dollars, but it was not insured. His phone was destroyed in the fire, but if you’d like to assist him to rebuild his home, you can find him on Arlington Drive.
