A Look at the “Dangerous Life of John Mcafee”

John McAfee

Gringo: The Dangerous Life of John McAfee aired on Saturday night. The Showtime documentary chronicles the activities of software tech John McAfee while he lived in Belize. The sensational documentary was produced by award winning filmmaker Nanette Burnstein. It includes interviews with local politicians, journalists, family and friends of Gregory Faull, along with those closest to McAfee—his security guards, girlfriends, driver, caretaker and the alleged hit man, who was paid five thousand dollars to kill Faull. Those compelling interviews and statements connect the dots and provide a timeline leading up to the murder of Faull and a second murder connected to McAfee—that of David Middleton, which took place in Carmelita, Orange Walk. McAfee refused an interview, but repeatedly emailed Nanette. Gringo showed anything but a security software mogul. It uncovered allegations of rape, two murders, abuse of power and bizarre sex tales leading back to McAfee. But it’s the unsolved murder of Gregory Faull that opened up the doings of McAfee.

Samantha Herrera, Girlfriend of McAfee

“He went and he saw the dogs and he said the dogs have been poisoned. The first thing that came in his mind was that it was his neighbor. Greg? Yes, Gregory Faull.”

Gregory Faull

Cassian Chavarria, Caretaker

“John said I am going to kill his ass, yuh nuh. That was Friday morning and I thought that was the end of it.”

Martin Savidge, CNN

“Did you kill Greg Faull?”

John McAfee

“I barely knew the man and why would I kill him? He lived two hundred yards down the beach.”

Samantha Herrera

Martin Savidge

“Do you really think that this is a vendetta by the Government of Belize to take you down and kill you? “

John McAfee

“Absolutely, sir.”

Nanette Burnstein, Producer, Gringo

“So, tell me about what happened with Greg Faull?”

Cassian Chavarria

“The Thursday night the dogs were poisoned. The following morning about nine o’clock, John called me and said take this money, five thousand dollars and go put it in this guy’s account.”

Nanette Burnstein

“What guy’s account? Eddie Mac. So I went there the Friday and put the money in his account and went back home.”

Cassian Chavarria

“Sunday morning, the night after the murder, around Eddie called probably around 3:30-4:00 called and said come and pick me up. I asked where are you. He said I am around by the shop. I was looking by the roadside but didn’t see him but when I approached Mata Grande shop. I saw him coming out of the bushes around 600 feet from Greg’s house.”

Cassian Chavarria

Nanette Burnstein

“And what was he like?”

Cassian Chavarria

“Well, I didn’t ask him any questions. He said take me to the house and I said ok.”

Nanette Burnstein

“Any time in that time period when Greg was killed, did you see Eddie Mac or Mac-10 at the house?”

Samantha Herrera

“Well, no, I didn’t see him in the night, only the morning after.”

Cassian Chavarria

“I didn’t put it together until after the fact. That this five thousand was for him to do that. “

Nanette Burnstein

“To do what?”

Cassian Chavarria

“To kill the guy. To kill the guy.”

Nanette Burnstein

“Did the police ever question you about the murder of Greg Faull?”

Cassian Chavarria

“No, not once. Not even when I was taken to the police station. They never questioned to ask if my boss had anything to do with it. Nothing. Nothing. Not even one question.”

Nanette Burnstein

“I was trying to find Eddie McKoy to ask him about these new allegations. Eventually, he agreed to meet me a second time. What new information do you have for me?”

Eddie “Mac-10” McKoy, Security Consultant

“What new information do you want to know? You will be the one asking the questions.”

Nanette Burnstein

“Where were you when Greg Faull was killed?”

Eddie “Mac-10” McKoy

Eddie “Mac-10” McKoy

“Orange Walk.”

Nanette Burnstein

“So, can you tell me the real story?”

Eddie “Mac-10” McKoy

“About what?”

Nanette Burnstein

“Did John ever ask you to do something and give you any money, like five thousand dollars?”

Eddie “Mac-10” McKoy

“Around that time?”

Nanette Burnstein

“Mhmm.”

Eddie “Mac-10” McKoy

“No. Never. Didn’t have any incident or anything going down at that time.”

Nanette Burnstein

“Why are you smiling?”

Eddie “Mac-10” McKoy

“Because that is weird. So, you’re trying to tell me that he paid me five thousand dollars to go…no, man, that’s crazy.”

Nanette Burnstein

“No?”

Eddie “Mac-10” McKoy

“No.”

Nanette Burnstein

“So, you didn’t get wired five thousand dollars into your account?”

Eddie “Mac-10” McKoy

“No. Never.”

Nanette Burnstein

“So some people said they saw you that night and you went to John’s house.”

Eddie “Mac-10” McKoy

“No. Never. Impossible. Maybe my twin, but I don’t have a twin any way.”

Nanette Burnstein

“So, you were not hired by John to kill McAfee?”

Eddie “Mac-10” McKoy

“No. Never.”

Nanette Burnstein

“And if you were, would you tell me?”

Eddie “Mac-10” McKoy

“No. I am not crazy to tell someone I killed someone. That’s ridiculous you know. But I was never paid by John to kill anyone.”

Nanette Burnstein

“So I would want to understand want to know why anyone would say this?”

Eddie “Mac-10” McKoy

“I want to know right now too. Who gave you that information?”

Nanette Burnstein

“I can’t tell you. So, do you have an alibi?”

Eddie “Mac-10” McKoy

“I don’t need an alibi. I was at home. My sister was marrying.”

Nanette Burnstein

“I wanted to check out Eddie’s alibi, but it felt way too dangerous.”

Gringo airs tonight on this station following the news package at eight p.m.

  1. Steve says:

Showtime and McAfee are surely making much money out of this documentary. It is a tag-team effort. They surely know how to take people for fools and make wealth. I tip my hat off to them.

  2. TheJigIsUp says:

    Steve,
As someone who was involved in this Documentary, I can assure you JM had nothing to do with it.
