Police officer detained in Melchor
It didn’t appear on the daily police press briefing, but reports to News 5 this afternoon are that three Belizeans including a police officer was detained in Melchor de Mencos, Guatemala on Thursday because they were intoxicated and acting in a disorderly manner. Police Press Officer G. Michael Reid confirmed the detention of the officer identified as Constable Michael Rosado, attached to the Benque police station. According to Reid, queries from Belizean law enforcement authorities to their Guatemala counterparts revealed that Rosado’s travel documents were not in order, and hence his detention. Rosado, who was not on duty when he was detained, has subsequently been released and returned to his job at the Benque police station. As to disciplinary measures against Rosado by Belize police, Reid says that will be determined at a later date.
