B.N.T.U. says G.O.B. Has Not Responded to Their Eight-Point Agenda
At today’s B.N.T.U. meeting, at the top of the discussion was the release sent out by the Government. President of the Belize District Branch Kathleen Flowers told the teachers that contrary to statements made by ministers, the B.N.T.U. has always been open to negotiation and will continue to dialogue if efforts are made. She also pointed out that the Prime Minister hasn’t met with the B.N.T.U. as yet:
Kathleen Flowers, President, Belize District Branch, B.N.T.U.
“There is a press release that the Government of Belize also put out, and there are two, that speaks to Cabinet calls to return to the negotiating table. While they are saying that, brothers and sisters of this branch, know it that we have never closed the door for negotiations. Hang on to that because if we don’t hang on to that there is hardly any chance of our getting any element of that three percent negotiation hat we are trying to hold on to. So, know that that door isn’t closed. We have not closed that door either on our eight points. So know that at any point in time that we get a response from the Prime Minister that he is prepared to meet with us, because he hasn’t responded to BNTU yet. Nuh mek any of the political propaganda out there fool yuh, because that is what’s been happening. No response we’ve gotten, except we heard it in the media that he has written to the joint unions. Yes, we’ve gotten the joint unions response but we can’t talk for the joint unions when we are here until that body of people are together.”
