77-year-old beaten in his home

Story Picture
Another of our older persons has been brutally beaten in his home by a thief or thieves. This time it was George Hamilton a resident of Cleghorn Street in Belize City. Despite his injuries, he gathered enough strength to speak to News 5 in the hopes that one of our viewers may be able to help the police catch the culprit.

It is impossible to see the facial injuries on seventy-seven year old George Hamilton and not be disturbed by the fact that this elderly man was beaten senselessly as he slept in his house on Friday night. There was nothing Hamilton could do to defend himself against the blows. He lost consciousness in bed as he was struck all over his head.

“My lips are swollen, and my eyes, because I can’t see. Over here (touches neck) hurts a little bit, I don’t know if it’s swollen underneath here.”

Hamilton says all he remembers is going to bed then waking up after he heard a noise.

George Hamilton

“I heard a noise. I sleep with a light by my bed, and I put on the light, but apparently the person supposed to crawl underneath of the glare of the light and that dah when he attack me. I noh know nothing from deh.”

It’s not known how the assailant gained access into Hamilton’s house on Cleghorn Street, but he believes he locked the door before he retired to his bedroom. It was not until the following morning that Hamilton’s brother discovered him unconscious and took him to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Hamilton says from what his brother told him, he believes he was beaten for money.
