Police receive training aid…
Judging from the number of complaints about police behaviour, it’s clear that some additional training in public relations is not a bad idea. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police, Maureen Leslie, the recent donation of a laptop computer by Tenchtronics and a projector by FedEx and Western Union will make those upcoming training sessions more effective.
Maureen Leslie, Assistant Police Commissioner, Eastern Div.
“We have been getting complaints from the public that the officers are not approachable and they don’t know how to talk to people, and their language is not the best and they don’t really know what are their roles and functions. So I think that by proving this particular training, it will enhance their knowledge and skills for them to better perform when dealing with members of the public.”
“I am hoping that immediately after Easter we could start the training for Eastern Division first of all, for which I am responsible. It is a two-hour presentation, but it is very interactive. It is not a lecture per se, it’s discussions and participating by the students, so I am hoping that I will see a decrease in the number of complaints from members of the public in regards to how they interact with members of the public.”
Leslie says the public can also be assured that the police will initiate increased patrols and security over the Easter holiday.
