San Pedro teachers walk streets of La Isla Bonita
Schools were also closed on San Pedro but it does not mean teachers were not engaged. This morning a sea of green overtook the island. Our friends at the San Pedro Sun have shared video of the teachers of the San Pedro High School in their peaceful march. They were joined by senior students and supporters in what they call a ‘Public Awareness Campaign,’ in support of the B.N.T.U. Following the march, they knocked at doors to raise consciousness of the BTNU’s good governance agenda. All that happened this morning on the island as branch president Kathleen Flowers explains.
Kathleen Flowers, Belize District Branch president, BNTU
“On behalf of the member of the Belize Branch, we thank the teachers in San Pedro because today they continued their vigil with a demonstration, rally on the streets, we had two executive members on the Cayes working with the teachers in San Pedro because throughout this district, in the villages we had teachers going into homes, Ladyville in Maskall they were doing their campaign going into homes, reaching out, taking care of community members, so we want to thank all our teachers who have been a part of that process. Because it is not just a matter of being on strike but we are being very useful as well in the community.”
