Con man detained in surveyor scam
Police have detained a man after he allegedly collected over twenty thousand dollars by posing as a surveyor. Carmine Tedeschi a businessman visiting San Ignacio, told police he was making arrangements to purchase a piece of land in San Antonio Village and that a man charged him and his partner, Rudolph Melter, eight hundred dollars to survey the parcel and then additional sums of nine thousand five hundred dollars and ten thousand dollars, with which he claimed he would pay taxes and insurance. When Tedeschi arrived at the Lands and Survey Department, however, he was informed that the individual did not work there and that no payments had been received. Police have detained the suspect pending charges of theft and obtaining property by deception.
