Fire Destroys Another Family Home in Belize City
There were fires reported overnight in Belize City and Valley of Peace, Cayo District. The first took place on the George Price Highway after eleven in the evening and destroyed a bungalow house occupied by two persons who were not at home. However, a candle was left lit inside the house. We hear more from Station Officer at the National Fire Service, Orin Smith.

“On Thursday, October twentieth, 2016 at approximately 8:55 p.m., fire-fighters responded to reports from the police that a structural fire in the vicinity of Miles 2.5 George Price Highway. On arrival, one bungalow approximately fourteen by twenty was seen engulfed in flames. Subsequently fire-fighters went into operations to extinguish the fire; the structure was destroyed as a result of the fire. Preliminary investigation reveal that the structure had two occupant-neither of which were at home at the time of the blaze. According to Miss Anna, one of the occupants, they left home to purchase grocery and had a candle lit in the structure. It is not sure yet whether the candle is the result of the fire as investigation is still ongoing. However, it is clear that the structure did not have any electricity at the time.”

The fire-fighters managed to rescue a dog found in distress at the fire scene. There is no word on the cost of the items lost by the homeowners.
