And while firefighters were still putting out the flames on Ferrel Lane, the alarm sounded not a dozen blocks away on West Canal. There, a building housing five families and one business was largely destroyed in a fire that once more spread panic through a congested area of the city. Due to an electrical blackout downtown caused by the two fires, we were unable to put a more complete story together, but cameraman Brent Toombs recorded the event and the accompanying confusion. We’ll have more on the investigations into both fires in tomorrow’s newscast.
