Police Catch 88 Kitchen Burglars in the Act; Minor Charged Under Curfew Law
Police say they stopped a burglary in progress in the early hours of this morning. Three burglars broke into Eighty-Eight Kitchen on Central American Boulevard but didn’t manage to make off with anything because police caught them in the act. One of the men, who had a little under a hundred dollars on him, was accompanied by a teen. Police say they will be charging the parent of the minor because he was out in the streets during the hours outlined in families and children’s act as outside of the curfew. ACP Chester Williams tells us more:
ACP Chester Williams, Regional Commander, Eastern Division South
“This morning sometime around four a.m. the police, based again on information provided to us by members of the public, responded to a burglary in progress at Eighty-Eight Kitchen that is on Central American Boulevard. Upon arrival at the location, police found one male person and a further search of the building lead the police to two individuals inside the building, one of whom is a minor aged fifteen years. All three persons were taken into custody and a search of one of the individuals at the police station yield just over ninety dollars Belize currency, which we believe is proceeds from the burglary. I must also state that you all would know that we have been strict with minors found on the streets between the hours of 9pm and 6am. So, in the case of the minor, we have also arrested and charged the parent of the minor for allowing a child to be out on the street whilst being unsupervised between that time period. To give you an update, that is the six parent we have charged and we have had convictions in respect to it as well. So, we continue to enforce the curfew law and where we encounter any minor on the streets between that time period then we take action against the parent.”
