Police Want Raymond Rivers Over Facebook ‘Threats’

Raymond Rivers

Police say that they are looking for Raymond Rivers because he has made some threatening Facebook posts. Today, ACP Chester Williams told the media that he needs to have a talk with the firebrand activist because his online actions are sending the wrong message. ACP Williams noted that this is not a call for an arrest:

ACP Chester Williams, Regional Commander, Eastern Division South

“Mister Raymond Rivers have been posting some very provocative and threatening comments on Facebook. I have directed my officers to bring Raymond Rivers to me because I need to ascertain what are his intentions because some of the things that he is posting on Facebook do require the police to inquire into his activities. I don’t want to have any back and forth with him or anybody. My thing is that when you post something on Facebook, you must do so responsibly because Facebook is a medium of getting information out to the public. When people see those things it is tantamount to inciting violence and it is something that we must address with Mister Rivers.”

“Sir, but why Mister Rivers? Because we have several Belizeans, probably hundreds Belizeans posting things such as Mister Rivers and not using their discretion about what they post. I have seen similar instances similar where other individuals posted inciting violence calling things against the police officers but in this case you are specifically asking for Mister Raymond Rivers. Why so?”

ACP Chester Williams

“Well, you say you have seen them. I have not seen the others. I have specifically seen the ones by Mister Rivers. I have seen other people post things on Facebook, yes, but not the extent to which Mister Rivers post is going. His post do require that Police bring him and speak to him.”

Reporter

“Has his home been searched?”

ACP Chester Williams

“It is not my intention to cause any embarrassment to Mister Rivers. I would hope that if he sees the news tonight that he would find it within himself to come and see me. And we can sit and we can talk about the matter.”

Reporter

“Because he is not being charged?”

ACP Chester Williams

“He is not being charged but it is sufficient for him to brought him and for Police to inquire into what his intentions are.”
