BELAIFA Collects Food For Charitable Causes
Every year around this time, the Belize Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors would hold a food drive and the proceeds are handed over to the Liberty Children’s Home in Ladyville. Well today, at the Public’s Supermarket, Brodie’s and Bottom Dolla, representatives from both organizations were out collecting non-perishable products from shoppers who wanted to assist. News Five caught up with Agatha Valentine of Liberty and Shawn Smith, the President of BELAIFA.
Shawn Smith, President, BELAIFA
“We originally planned it couple years ago and it is something that we continue to do. It’s all a part of life insurance awareness week and it is our community service—BELAIFA actually community service—to donate to Liberty’s Children Home.”
Duane Moody
“So I believe you are at three locations.”
Shawn Smith
“Yes we are actually here at Brodie’s on the Northern Highway, Publics on the Northern Highway and at Bottom Dolla downtown.”
Duane Moody
“So anything you guys are looking for, but non-perishables primarily?”
Shawn Smith
“That’s correct. Most things that we have collected so far are canned and we want them to last a little while. We want to ensure that there are things that they could use as well like peanuts butter, jam…you know the cornflakes and so forth that kids love.”
Agatha Valentine, Executive Director, Liberty Children’s Home
“It reinforces that we are not in this alone so we are very grateful for every contribution that we’ve had and we as a staff decided to join BELAIFA in this initiative because we know it is not easy; it is hard work and we wanted to be a part and be on the ground along with the members of BELAIFA.”
Liberty Children’s Home caters to over fifty children with their holistic needs.
