New Police Minister Kept “Danny Mason” at Arms’ Length

William "Danny" Mason

William “Danny” Mason may be behind bars as he awaits the next phase of his trial procedure for murder and kidnapping charges, but he continues to be a thorn in the side of the Police Department, due to the many unprecedented connections he made with powerful figures, both in Government and in the Department. Nearly every member of the Government has a “Danny Mason” story, and it was the turn of Minister of State for Home Affairs Elodio Aragon Junior to tell his. From what the junior minister told us today, his path and that of Mason’s crossed rarely and there was no suggestion of impropriety involved.

“I met Mister Mason way back, what was that, maybe five or six years ago, I think when he first came. I met him on a few occasions and that was it. After that I did not have any contact with him and it’s been years since I have seen him, except for when I got back to Belmopan.”

“Did you ever socialize with him then, or thereafter, in your political life?”

Elodio Aragon Jr.

“In the political life, I only met him when I was with Minister Faber, at that event that Faber mentioned, and that was it.”

The event in question is the celebrated “drinks” episode after Faber’s defeat of John Saldivar for first deputy of the United Democratic Party. Mason returns to court with his co-accused on November ninth for case management.
