Women Shot in Carmelita, Orange Walk; a Resident is Charged
There is more on the crime blotter. Orange Walk police had a very busy weekend in addition to the murder in Trial Farm. In Carmelita, the village immediately south of town, two women were shot following a confrontation on Saturday. They survived, and Police have arrested the attempted killer. Officer Commanding Orange Walk Formation, Superintendent Selvyn Tillett told the media today that Floyd Hyde has been charged for the crime.

“Police again visited the Northern Regional Hospital, where one Sandra Rios, thirty-four years, of Chula Vista, Corozal, was seen suffering from a gunshot wound to her right foot. According to her, she was along with a sixteen-year old female, walking in Carmelita village, where both females met a male person, dressed in white shirt and camouflage pants, where they had a confrontation. When they were about twenty feet away from said person, the person opened fire at them, causing said injuries. Initial investigations have led to the arrest of Floyd Hyde, twenty-eight years, labourer of Carmelita village, who has been arrested and charged for two counts of attempted murder.”
Police have not established a motive for this incident, although Hyde has been accused of involvement in several previous and unrelated incidents.
