TGS and Its Relationship with G.O.B. Goes Back Years
For many, the company conducting the testing, TGS, came out of nowhere. But OCEANA’s Janelle Chanona reported that its relationship with the Government has been long-standing and it is clear that they were after one thing, and one thing only.
Janelle Chanona, Vice-President, OCEANA Belize
“What we have been told that government has had a relationship with this company for ten years and that for three years they’ve been talking about doing seismic. But when the deal was finalized in February, that’s when the multi-beam component was included. The thing to remember there is that that is what they keep saying; go to the TGS website because the primary thing for both these surveys was about petroleum systems. Any data after that was going to be just by-products and benefits of doing it. But the first and key thrust of both the surveys was about petroleum.”
According to Chanona, Government had agreed in February to an eighty-twenty split in profits from the survey and fifty-fifty for anything that followed after the more than six million Belize dollars in cost had been recovered.
