The young women vying for the title of Miss St. Michael’s have been preparing themselves for the pageant. The students are hoping that they will be able to raise the money the school needs to help them get the best education possible.
Agnes Menzies, Pageant Coordinator
“The school usually used the funds for either chairs maybe, for the feeding programme, for the students who don’t have. because we are on the southside, some of the students that come here are poverty stricken and so we need to give back to them. Some of them don’t come to school with food, so we provide food for them.”
Pageant Coordinator Agnes Menzies says they wanted the contest to be different from all other high school pageants.

“The introduction will be different from all other pageants. We wanted something new and unique to St. Michael’s. After that we will have a chit chat with the students. They have to look up to some role model that they like and we will ask them questions about their role model. Then we will have a casual wear and the formal, which will end with the one question that each student has to answer.”
The eight contestants vying for the title are Shandy Tillett, Christine Pott, Soshanee Dominguez, Keira Martinez, Shawnee Andrews, Monique Hamilton, Tiffany Pollard, and Indira Flowers. Only one of these ladies can be crowned, but whoever wins is expected to carry out her duties as Miss St. Michael’s.
Agnes Menzies
“She has to help out with the different fundraising that we have and probably mentor to other students as well.”
