Wounded security guard needs more treatment

Story Picture
While P.C. Jacobs fights for his life in a Merida hospital, he may soon be joined in Mexico by another shooting victim, security guard Andre Douze. Douze, a Haitian national, was shot once in the shoulder on February sixteenth, during a robbery attempt, and while his condition continues to improve, doctors at the K.H.M.H. have determined that he will need neurosurgical treatment not available in Belize. Medical officials maintain that if Douze doesn’t get to see a specialist in Mexico or Guatemala, he will be an invalid, unable to use the upper left side of his body. Friends and family of the young man are now pooling their resources, hoping it

will be enough to help their loved one.

“Doctor Coleman want Andre to go outside in Mexico or in Guatemala because his hand, if he doesn’t go, he’s going to leave cripple. That is so very sorry.”

“We going to Guatemala or Mexico, I think the doctor tell we it’s going to be about two or three days, that’s it, we coming back home. You know, I wah work and try help these guys and we really need help…I really want help Andre, that is my country people.”

Despite unsuccessful initial attempts to acquire a visa for entry to Guatemala or Mexico, this afternoon News 5 confirmed that Douze, who entered Belize in January on a tourist visa, has now been issued a re-entry visa for Belize by the Immigration Department. With that document, officials at the Mexican Embassy say they will now be able to process the Haitian’s application within two days so that the injured security guard can leave the country by early next week. If you would like to assist Andre Douze, please contact Marie Geoboam at 202-5145.

In related news, police have arrested a suspect in Douze’s shooting. Nineteen year old Micah Williams of Raccoon Street in Belize City has been charged with attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, and dangerous harm.
