Belize Advances in Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination

Juan Vargas

And the marks for Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations have been consistent and students are performing extremely well. Vargas says the students have demonstrated that they prepared well and he explains how Belize stacks up this year compared to previous years.

Juan Vargas, CXC Local Registrar

“The CAPE exams which have the acceptable grades one to five; by the nature of that examinations, we have a smaller number of students sitting that examination. And we have here a host of subjects which in the CAPE Examination it is comprised of units; two units and to complete that subject you have to do both units. Including in that we have three subjects which are one unit courses. If you look at the spread of the subjects, you will see that even though the number of students who are sitting it is quite small but you will find that the grades are quite acceptable within CXC’s acceptable performance.  For example, if you look at the subject that have more entries; Caribbean Studies, this year we have ninety-seven percent acceptable performance which means within grades one to five. Last year we had ninety-seven percent and the year before ninety-seven percent, so we are consistent with that. For Communication Studies, this year we have one hundred percent acceptable performance and last year we had one hundred percent and the year before one hundred percent. If we look at the spread of the subjects, you will see that many of the subjects will have a one hundred percent acceptable performance; this means between grades one to five. So, I can say that the students who sit the subject are prepared and many of them would sit the subjects on their own because many of them try to vie for the Belize scholarship.”

The award ceremonies for the outstanding students will be held on November twenty-third at the Saint Catherine Academy Gymnasium.
